In the 50s of the last century a number of leading artists announced the death of painting as the kind of art. They claimed that it would be replaced by photography etcetera.

Today we see the appearance of unbelievable computer technology. But the painting still flourishes.

In Lviv, in the Green Sofa Gallery Petro Smetana opens his first personal exhibition "Colour Features of Pluses and Minuses" from the 20th of July to the 8th of August.

A 25-year old artist walks along the ancient streets carrying an easel and cartons, composes still lives out of fish that he eventually eats or old sewing machine and flowers that he has not gave to his girlfriend yet...

With his oil paints he feels sad and cold in the freezing morning or greets the sun in spring.

His paintbrush is led not by the professional hand but by the emotions and gift of painting. Very often he is bewildered and exclaims - is it really painted by me? Only irrational and illogical human soul is capable of such existentialism - not the immaculate programme

This is the reason of appearance of new artists and endurance of painting in the 21st century.
