Last February the Green Sofa Gallery presented the project „Taming eros’. Exquisit erotic art, exclusively in the male performance, attracted a lot of visitors.
From the 5th to 24th of February in the Green Sofa Gallery Eros will be tamed again. Only by women, paintings by Anna Atoyan, Nataliya Bartkiv, Zoriana Garbar, Ivanka Voytovych, Nina Reznichenko, Olena Onufriv, Uliana Vanivska-Dugme; graphics by Iryna Kliapetura, Nataliya Myronchuk; ceramics by Olga Pylnyk; photography by Yolanta Kliusovska. A curator of the project is, again, Ivanka Voytovych.
How does a female eroticism look like? Are the women going to depict naked men? Will they be as bold as men or will they present us with a modest erotic art? And, is there a difference between male and female erotic art? ‘Imagery, that if followed by interpretation, is revealed and invites us to take a dive into it. We have Venus of pure love and common love, we also have Eve and Leda, Betrayer Aurora and Beatrice, bacchantes and nymphs, among which we can observe Adam, fallen angels – so just men and women and Eros, a god whose sex features are not fully determined, is flying above all of them – ideal theme to show our dark side from our brightest side.
And what about women? Women-artists, as well as all the other artists, are balancing between eros and pornos, between the declarations and realizations, they fight tradition to make sure it will go on’. Anna Kostyrko, art critic.
