Modern Art, or in other words Contemporary Art in in its essence very cosmopolitan. The exhibition of young art-group in Amsterdam does not differ from the art-group of artists in Ukraine. We are glad to be europeanised. It is great. But still...In Amsterdam we are eager to find something characteristic to the Netherlands, in order to learn something new. I think, a foreigner in Ukraine will search for something Ukrainian.
A Lvivian artist Mykhaylo Demtsiu will satisfy such need entirely. From the 27th of April to 16th of May the Green Sofa Gallery will host his personal exhibition "Expressionism from Lviv".
Mykhaylo Demtsiu is the most prominent representative of national, even Lvivian painting. He was born in Transcarpathian region, graduated Lviv State College of Decorative and Applied Arts. He is a successor of Mykola Moros and Oleksa Novakivsky. Demtsiu offers clear colours of traditional Ukrainian embroaderie - red, yellow-green and yellow-hot. He treats the space in the manner of Boychuks, the expressive dance of his brush strokes coincides with the dance of kolomyika . The Europeans will lose their head from such colours and in the numerous exhibitions people scream in the unison - This is Ukraine! No wonder Mykhaylo Demtsiu is awarded the title of the national Artist of Ukraine.
